I have ridden and competed for as long as I can remember starting way back with my Pony Club days in Bonnie Scotland.
While dabbling with those ponies at gymkhanas and in show jumping rings, my passion was always eventing and
I was lucky enough to enjoy an early introduction at those events.
My enthusiasm grew steadily over the years encouraged by my successes and diligent coaching from my mother,
herself a skilled horsewoman.
I had several wonderful horses in Scotland, two of which continued on to Badminton and the British Young Riders
team.
Since relocating to the USA, some 23years ago, I escaped an accounting career and found my way back to my four
legged friends. I rode for several years bringing horses up through the ranks before I found Dobbin in the local Wantadvertiser.
He was a 16 hand, three year-old TB still in the field he was born in. The rest is history!
As a 4yr old he ran Training placing 1st or 2nd in them all. As a 5 yr old he ran Prelim and always finished in
the top 3. His 6 year old year he competed Intermediate and finished 2nd in the Bromont CCI*.
He was 3rd at Radnor CCI** the following year as a 7year old.
2002 onwards he ran with the same successes at the Advanced, CCI*** and CCI**** level. With wins too numerous to mention
he became 2008 USEA Horse of The Year, winning more points than any other horse in the country that year!
He was, and is, a true superstar and I am privileged to watch him everyday in the field "play" with his
2 mini donkeys, and anyone else he can get his teeth on!!
While it is difficult for anything else to match up to his skills and talents he has enabled me to
become a superior rider, courtesy of Dobbin, I know how it should feel! I am able to enjoy the
talents of others and help them develop to their fullest potential.
And yes I do still dream of sitting on that next extra special horse.
